Preventing Burnout Tip: Make sure you’re not your own worst enemy. What I mean by this is are you the perpetrator of your own downfall? Is stress down to your behaviour – workaholic, competitive, feel guilty relaxing, always in a rush, always doing? Take stock of what this might be doing to you. It’ll all be for nothing if you crash and burn.

Take a walk. Walking is a powerful way to reduce elevated cortisol, the stress hormone. Find ways to incorporate it into your life so you enjoy it and you’ll soon notice the benefits. Maybe you could get off public transport a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way or get out of the office at lunchtime and walk around any green space there is close by. Whatever works for you – and to make it more interesting maybe listen to a podcast or music or make a conscious effort to use your senses and take in your surroundings.
